Why unconventionalist?
I have selfish motives.
I’d like to live in a world…
…where my food is grown without chemicals.
…where my clothes are made by people earning a reasonable wage in decent working conditions.
…where people take care of each other.
…where business people can make a profit doing interesting, unconventional things that they love.
…where organisations that are doing great things can find the support they need to do more great things.
… where we all get to have a lot more fun!
I figure the best way for me to live in this kind of world is to do what I do best – work with the people running those businesses and organisations. To help them create structures and systems and work with people in a way that aligns with their values.
It’s a time of massive change – ultimately, I believe what is considered unconventional will become the norm. Until then, I’m here to help make it happen.
Other things about me (at random).
My name is Kim Wood.
I trained to be an air traffic controller (trust me – you’re safer without me in that job).
I started and managed a community bartering system.
I’ve been loudly ‘SHOOSHED’ by a guard in Lenin’s tomb, in front of Lenin himself. (That’s Lenin, not Lennon. The one in Red Square, Moscow.)
I was CEO of a not for profit for seven years – providing education and support to primary health practitioners.
My formative years were the hippie / counterculture and punk fuelled seventies/eighties – consequently, I’ve long thought of myself as a visitor to the system, not an inhabitant.
Music – lots of it, every day please. When I was 15 I planned to be the female equivalent of Jimmy Page and played guitar for hours every day. Then punk came along, and everything changed … Stand out live musical experiences in my life have been The Clash, Bob Marley and Michael Franti.
I live in Australia, but work with people from around the globe.
I’m totally besotted with our world wide connection technomagic. It reinforces my belief that the world is full of amazing, creative, wild and wonderful people. Now I can connect with lots of them.
